WHEN IS CLARITHROMYCIN ACCORD PRESCRIBED?
This medicine is an antibiotic belonging to the macrolide family.
It is used in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age in the treatment of various infections of the throat, sinuses, bronchi, lungs and skin.
It is used in adults for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (responsible for recurrent peptic ulcers) in combination with other drugs.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF THE DRUG CLARITHROMYCIN ACCORD
This drug should not be used in the following cases:
allergy to macrolides;
hypokalemia;
electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormality called "QT prolongation";
history of cardiac rhythm disorders, including torsades de pointes
renal insufficiency associated with severe hepatic insufficiency;
in association with ergot derivatives (ergotamine, dihydroergotamine...) and drugs containing colchicine, mizolastine, pimozide, simvastatin, alfuzosin, dapoxetine, avanafil, ivabradine, eplerenone, dronedarone, quetiapine or ticagrelor.
CAUTION
Macrolide antibiotics carry a risk of torsades de pointes. Caution should be exercised in certain situations: association with other drugs that may cause torsades de pointes, slow (bradycardia) or irregular heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia), severe heart failure, angina pectoris, magnesium deficiency.
Do not continue to take the medication without the advice of your doctor if you experience:
skin redness with pustules and fever;
signs of liver damage, such as loss of appetite, jaundice, abnormally dark urine, itching.
Precautions are necessary in cases of severe liver or kidney failure.
Many antibiotics can cause loose stools or diarrhea, which is usually mild. However, significant diarrhea during or within days of antibiotic treatment should be reported to your doctor.
A decrease in fever or the disappearance of symptoms is not synonymous with a cure: the duration of treatment must absolutely be respected to avoid relapses or the appearance of resistance of the germ to the antibiotic.
Caution: Dizziness, dizziness, confusion or disorientation are possible. Make sure you are comfortable with this medication before driving or operating hazardous machinery.
CLARITHROMYCIN ACCORD DRUG INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES
This medication should not be used with drugs containing:
ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, methylergometrine: risk of ergotism;
cisapride, bepridil (these 2 substances are no longer marketed in France), mizolastine or pimozide (ORAP): risk of torsades de pointes;
colchicine (COLCHICINE OPOCALCIUM, COLCHIMAX), alfuzosin (XATRAL, URION...), avanafil (SPEDRA), dapoxetine (PRILIGY), eplerenone (INSPRA... ), ivabradine (PROCORALAN), dronedarone (MULTAQ), simvastatin (ZOCOR...), quetiapine (XEROQUEL...) or ticagrelor (BRILIQUE): increased risk of adverse effects of these drugs.
Its association is not recommended with certain immunosuppressants (ciclosporin, everolimus, sirolimus, tacrolimus) and drugs containing the following substances: bromocriptine, cabergoline, pergolide, lisuride, bosutinib, disopyramide, ebastine, halofantrine, irinotecan, oxycodone, quinidine, rivaroxaban, simeprevir, tamsulosin, tolterodine.
It may also interact with many other drugs. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about any other treatment you are taking.
FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
PREGNANCY:
The effect of this medication during pregnancy is not well known: only your doctor can assess the possible risk of its use in your case.
BREASTFEEDING:
This drug is likely to pass into breast milk. Its use is possible during breastfeeding, but the occurrence of any digestive disorder in the infant must be reported promptly to the doctor.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE OF CLARITHROMYCIN ACCORD
This medication is best taken with meals.
USUAL DOSAGE :
For the treatment of infections:
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 250 mg to 500 mg, morning and evening.
In the eradication of Helicobacter pylori :
Adult: 500 mg, morning and evening, in combination with another antibiotic and an antiulcer drug.
ADVICE
The doctor sometimes prescribes a swab to identify the germ responsible for the infection and test its sensitivity to antibiotics. The result of this examination may be distorted if you have previously taken self-medication: do not take antibiotics without medical advice.
Any fatigue is not due to the antibiotic, but to the infection itself.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF CLARITHROMYCIN ACCORD
Most common: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, taste disorders.
Common (1-10% of patients): insomnia, headache, sweating.
Uncommon (less than 1% of patients): stomach pain, constipation, flatulence, mouth inflammation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, itching, hives, anxiety, nervousness, dizziness, drowsiness, tremor, dizziness, hearing impairment, ringing in the ears, palpitations, muscle pain, cramps, candidiasis, blood count abnormalities, increased transaminases, allergic reaction.
Undetermined frequency: confusion, depression, disorientation, hallucinations, abnormal dreams, change or loss of sense of smell, discoloration of tongue or teeth, seizures, severe bullous skin reaction, heart rhythm disturbances, hepatitis (see Warning), kidney failure.
